How to become a Mentor

Rachel’s Angels, a mentorship programme, operates since 2007 in the Western Cape in association with the University of Stellenbosch. The programme aims to improve grade 11 and 12 learners’ academic abilities and to enrich their life skills by involving senior students from the university as mentors.

Currently 100 mentors from the University of Stellenbosch are participating in the Rachel’s Angels programme.

In order to become a mentor, students have to apply and are submitted to a strict selection process by the trustees.

Mentors are expected to meet twice a month with their students, to attend workshops as well as to help learners understand how life at the university works. Mentors will act as a life coach by sharing their knowledge and experience with the learners. They will also assist learners with study techniques and self-esteem.

Mentors will receive Media24 and MultiChoice shares if they meet all the requirements of the programme. Mentors are thus empowered by having a head start when they enter the business world.
