Something big is heading for Gansbaai and surrounds! It’s time for the bi-annual Media24 Rachel’s Angels Market Day: The 2015 event will take place at Gansbaai Academia on Saturday 16 May and the Market Day will offer a host of stalls and entertainment for all ages.

Amazing artists such as SAMA winners Beatenberg, former Trace Stars winner Oshri and hiphop artist Hemelbesem feature on the entertainment line-up, while celebrities including Liesl Laurie (the newly-crowned Miss South Africa 2015), Ilze Saunders (Miss SA Earth) and SABC1 presenter Nkokeli Oros Mampofu will be members of the judging team choosing the Market Day’s Mr and Miss Rachel’s Angels.

The event is hosted by Gansbaai Academia, and 20 schools forming part of the Media24 Rachel’s Angels empowerment project will show off their entrepreneurial skills and business know-how as part of the day. Teams from the participating Western Cape schools will man stalls offering handmade arts and crafts, jewellery, body art, clothing, notepads, phone pouches and much more. Jumping castles and face-painters will also be on hand to entertain and keep the young ones occupied.

This year’s Market Day theme is ‘Save our Ocean’, a perfect fit for the greater Gansbaai community given its proximity to and dependency on the ocean for generating work and attracting tourism. Market visitors who dress up according to the theme will stand in line to win great prizes.

The two MCs in charge of the day’s programme will be Kim Cloete well known actor and TV personality, and street magician Charles Tertiens (better known as Karl Ahari). Apart from Hemelbesem, Beatenberg (winners of no less than six SAMA awards at the April event) and Oshri, London Louw (SAIdols season 10 top four contender) and Tribal Echo (the band specialises in “eclectic roots rock”) will also be performing at the Market Day.

The Media24 Rachel’s Angels Market Day will be open from 10:00. Tickets will be available at the gate and cost R20 for adults, R10 for scholars and entry is free for children under six.

*Rachel’s Angels is a Media24 initiative operating in the Western Cape in association with Stellenbosch University (SU).  ‘Angel’ is an American term referring to people who are willing to invest in a risky opportunity with the prospect of great rewards. The two-year programme operates within a set framework and the participants attend structured workshops on topics such as study techniques, self-esteem, entrepreneurship, and life skills.
