Letter from alumni Mentors

In a letter to our chair, Rachel Jafta, on the 3rd of January 2014, one of our former Mentor Angels wrote:

"Hi Rachel

Happy new year, we trust that 2014 will be a great year for you.

We have been wanting to send you an email for some time just to thank you for the fantastic opportunity that you provided us with via the Rachel's Angels program. I participated in the program in 2007 and 2008 and Glynn joined in 2008. After graduating, we moved to JHB where we realised that so many of our friends with more privileged backgrounds were provided some sort of safety net from their parents for their future (be it in the form of financial policies, cars or accommodation or anything similar that freed up their cash flows). Although we did not have this privilege, the Phuthumanathi shares have done just that for us. While we initially had to start from scratch, we always found comfort in the fact that we had these valuable assets on our names; we have since acquired more shares because firstly, we believe there is value in the company and secondly, the shares awarded to us through Rachel's Angels have formed the foundation of our savings and investments.

So in a nutshell, thank you for this wonderful opportunity that has literally changed our lives. We hope that this message serves as testimony of how Rachel's Angels have positively impacted the lives of so many!

Regards
Fahmida and Glynn"

Madiba's Touch - a feature on our trustee, Luzelle Lestrades

AJ+ (Al Jazeera Plus -- a web channel for youngsters) made a documentary on young people's lives touched by Tata Mandela. Luzelle Lestrades, one of our trustees, was selected as one of those young people because she received a Mandela Rhodes Scholarship and met Tata a few times.  The documentary explores how Madiba had influenced Luzelle's life and how it has affected her in her career and involvement with Rachel's Angels.
